The mission of the Lea County Sheriff’s Posse is to promote and enhance community service through an organization of dedicated volunteers and qualified members interested in supporting our law enforcement community. Volunteers assist at community events, and members aid the Sheriff’s administrative offices. Qualified volunteers attend a Reserve Deputy academy, are certified as armed patrol Reserve Members, and are commissioned by the Lea County Sheriff to assist Deputies in their duties.
Youth ages 14 – 20 (male and female) participate in training and learn the many facets of law enforcement from certified Deputies. The Explorers are trained under a quasi-military setting, learn discipline and the importance of integrity in daily life. This is an excellent program for those whose goal is to become a certified law enforcement officer.
The Lea County Sheriff’s CERT team consists of highly motivated individuals comprised of administrative support staff, Deputies, Sheriff’s Command Staff, Sheriff’s Posse members, and Explorers. The CERT team's mission is community outreach and enrichment through local Lea County events and fundraising efforts.
